…we have learning about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We started by sharing a story called ‘Lighting the lamp’ where the family decorated their house with diva lamps and Rangoli patterns. We used our scissor and pencil skills to create our own lanterns and then went outside to create symmetrical Rangoli patterns with coloured rice. Colour magic was the package we used to create firework pictures on the laptops. It was a challenge to make our own firework stamps using straws and tape, but we managed!
Our favourite part was hearing the story of Rama and Sita which we retold using puppets we had created ourselves. Who was your favourite character in the story?
Taking advantage of the sunshine, we practised counting using natural materials and writing numerals on the car ramp, in the sand and in the rice left from our Rangoli patterns. Back inside we used our tricky words (see your L&S bag) and sound buttons to spell when recording our news. Why not try to write a sentence at home?
