Hello Year 5!
We hope you are well and have enjoyed the beautiful weather this week. Maybe some of you have had fun splashing about in your paddling pool or sprinkler!? Well done for working hard at home-we know it must be hard for you after all this time away from school. Here are some more home learning activities to keep you busy this week!
Type into Google “Alma The Literacy Shed” and watch the short film (it starts with a little girl running and jumping down a snowy street). We would like you to retell her story which can be presented as a mini book, a comic strip or typed/written on A4. You must consider the genre and therefore the adjectives and adverbs you will use to create the correct atmosphere. What is the setting like? What can she see, hear, feel at different points of the story? Remember: Past tense, first person and be creative with your sentences-short sentences, subordinate clause and fronted adverbials- mix it up!
Practise the next 10 words from the Year 5/6 Statutory Spellings list in your reading diary.
Solve this problem:
On a digital clock showing 24-hour time, over a whole day, how many times does a 5 appear?
Is it the same number for a 12-hour clock over a whole day?
When does 5 appear in the minutes display?
When does 5 appear in the hours display?
How will you know that you have got all the different times? (Be SYSTEMATIC)
In school this week we have made moving robots out of split pins and paper. We would love to see some of your own moving object creations. You can be as creative as you like in terms of how/ which parts move. E.g. levers to move sideways or up and down or even wheels to roll.
Choose any one of David Attenborough’s documentaries to watch on I-Player. Create a poster to demonstrate what you have learned from it.
5) Virtual Sports Day
As we are unable to have our Sports Day this year, look out for a Parentmail with some ideas for you to hold your own Stay at Home Sports Day! If you can, send in some pictures of your events!
