This Week In Year Four

Image

This week in Year Four we’ve been enjoying learning about electricity. We’ve also been practising our reading skills by learning how to find evidence in the text. We’ve written lots of noun phrases about dragons, learned about regrouping four digit numbers and we’ve even listened to the story of Abraham in RE. Year Four have worked really hard. There is so much to remember and you are doing really well!

This week in Reception…

What a busy week we have had!

We have continued to use ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers to support our learning. We talked about what makes us special and what we can do. Everyone at a go at recording their ideas using pens and pencils and paper. We developed our counting skills by playing Number Splat and our phonic skills by playing Sound Splat!

Reading books have come home this week to share. Remember to talk about the pictures to tell a story about what is happening in the pictures. We have learned that we can’t segment tricky words and are learning to recognise ‘I’ and ‘the’ as well as the phonemes /s/a/t/p/i/n/. Look for your grapheme cards in your bag and play ‘Sound Splat’ at home.

We have continued to enjoy the gorgeous weather by exploring the resources in the garden. Our PE lessons have also been outside too.

Have a good rest Reception and I look forward to more learning with you next week.

A fantastic first week, Nursery!

I am so proud of all the children and how wonderfully they have settled into Nursery this week. We have been learning new class routines, exploring our learning environment and making new friends. Today we investigated the Wiggly Path and even learned how to climb over a stile!

Have a restful weekend, Nursery, ready for lots of fun learning next week!

This week in Year 6…

In maths this week, we have been consolidating our understanding of place value. This involved reading, writing and partitioning numbers to ten million. Well done to those of you who completed the purple tricky challenge – using some tricky clues to work out the secret number. You could identify the best starting point, using the most helpful clues and worked systematically.  Next week, we will be exploring negative numbers and rounding.

In English, we have been reading chapter 1 of ‘The Hobbit’ and discussing new and unfamiliar vocabulary. We have got to know a bit more about the wonderful Mr Baggins and looked at how his character is portrayed in the text. Next week, we will begin our first unit of writing for the story: this will be a piece of descriptive writing. We have also revised the ‘basics’ of sentence structure (identifying the subject, verb and object in a sentence, and the main and subordinate clauses).

In our R.E. lessons this week, we have been reflecting on the meaning of The Kingdom of God. We discussed the different values that are important and ways we can embrace them in our everyday lives. Next week, we will be exploring parables and what they teach us about what the Kingdom of God is like.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Davies 😊

A Full Week of Year Three…

Image

We have had a lovely first full week together!

I have been so impressed with the outcomes of everyone’s work. We have worked particularly hard, exploring our favourite places and writing poems about how spectacular they are! The attitude to learning and outcomes have been wonderful!

We have also spent some time thinking about the recommend reads for children in Year Three and finished off our reading displays with our own hot air balloons.

In maths, we have been spending lots of time looking at the value of hundreds, tens and ones.

In RE, we have been thinking about our school values and the meaning of each value. We thought about how the school values guide us to be the best we can be.

Well done Year 3, you are all superstars!

Year 5 this week

What a busy week we have had! We have been using our whole school text “Here we are” to think about the people who are special to us and our hopes for the future. We are a very ambitious class!! We will use this work to add to our “Gallery of Greatness” display which we have been busy preparing this afternoon.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces next week!

This week in Year 1…

Image

We read Oliver Jeffers’ book ‘Here We Are’ this week and have been thinking about how wonderful our world is! We read the Creation Story and discovered how God created the world in six days. We looked for things that He made down the Wiggly Path and wrote lists and painted pictures of our favourite things. We finished our week by writing thank you cards to God for creating the world for us and shared them with one other.

This week in Reception…

Well done to everyone in Reception for a fabulous first full week in school.

The children have explored the resources available inside and outside and are now showing us their creativity and imagination when using the equipment.

This week, we have been using ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers as the work focus. We have talked about the planets and stars including the sun and earth. We are trying hard to remember which team we are in – the stars, the moon or the sun! We have talked about what makes us ‘super stars’ and discovered we have many different ways that we are special. This links very well with our RE theme where we are learning all about God’s world. Look out for a photo of our ‘Here we are’ display next week.

Have a good rest Reception over the weekend. Remember to bring a sun hat next week because the forecast is looking good.

A lovely first week back!

Thank you to the new Year Four for a lovely first week back in school! There is so much to remember but you are all doing brilliantly well and I have thoroughly enjoyed beginning to get to know you.

Here are the highlights of our week according to Year Four.

In Maths we have been learning about place value and solving missing number sequences, by working out which digits have changed.

In Art we have been using charcoal in different ways.

In English, we’ve written list poems about our favourite places. Each line started with a preposition.

In RE we’ve been learning about the books of the Bible and finding out whether books belonged in the Old Testament or New Testament.

In Science we’ve been learning about how to stay safe when using electricity.

We’ve even practised our times tables and learned how to log into Spelling Shed to practise our spellings. Ask someone in Year Four about the Homophone rap.

In PE we’ve been practising our ball control skills.

That’s it for now! We are looking forward to next week already. Have a lovely weekend everyone!
